Tactile Stimulation
Tactile Stimulation
Tactile stimulation is a gentle massage that involves slow, deliberate, and hands-on strokes on the body in a specific pattern.
You are comfortably enveloped in towels and blankets, and only the body part to be treated is exposed. You keep your undergarments on.
The treatment uses vegetable oils, accompanied by relaxing melodies, and typically lasts for about 45 minutes.
The purpose of Tactile Stimulation is to release the well-being hormone oxytocin through touch, which has several positive effects on health.
Touch is fundamental to the organization of nerves in the body. When the skin is touched, it increases the activity in the part of the brain that relays sensory information to other parts of the brain.
The effects of touch and increased oxytocin in the bloodstream are numerous, including calmness, pain relief, increased curiosity, reduced aggression, improved weight gain for underweight individuals, enhanced communication/greater social ability, reduced aggression, more effective learning, better circulation in the brain (improving memory), enhanced immune system, faster wound healing, lower blood pressure, increased pain threshold, improved digestive function, and an enhanced quality of life.
Touch is the most effective way to lower cortisol levels and, therefore, reduce stress in the body.
Another important role of touch is to ensure a healthy body perception, knowing where each body part begins and ends. A healthy body perception leads to clearer body language and communication. Improved body perception also enhances self-awareness and initiative.
Touch strengthens emotional bonds between individuals, fosters greater security and trust, reduces aggression, and increases feelings of love and joy in interactions with others.
In short, touch is one of our most essential instinctual and human needs.
